We asked Charlotte a few questions people might have when thinking about investing in one of her exquisite shades:
Q. Do you have any advice for someone who is looking to get a CCC shade but might not know how to style it?
A. I would say think about mood lighting! It’s often overlooked in a home. Lighting doesn’t always have to be functional, mood lighting or accent lighting transforms a room. Making it stylish and cosy.
I would advise not shying away from rich colour! It looks so striking when the light is off, and once the light is shining through the fabric the colour softens, but doesn’t get lost like paler colours.
Don’t be afraid of large shades! The height of a standard lamp and the width of a large shade draws the eye up and will add depth and levels to your home, making it feel larger.
Q. Where do you get the inspiration for designing your shades and what comes first when starting to design a shade?
A. A bit of everything! Sometimes I see an amazing fabric that sparks an idea, but sometimes it’s the other way around and I find and see an amazing shape or vintage shade.
I am always hunting for unique fabrics, frames and trims so once I’ve found something I love it often sparks my imagination.
Q. Do you make custom orders, and if so what information should people bring to you?
A. Yes, I love making commissions! A starting point of a shape or a colour is great but not totally necessary. We can work those things out together if you’re not sure!
I normally start with a chat about function, the style of the clients home already, frame shapes, fabrics, prints, and colours.
Throughout lockdown I’ve often been sending fabric samples to clients to make sure it’s exactly right before the make begins.
I can also recover or copy a much loved shade that is damaged or looking a little worse for wear.
